- 町の概要/Overview of Shichigahama
- 七ヶ浜町は、仙台市中心部から約20km、松島湾の南西に突き出した半島状の町である。町土面積は13.19km2で、町の中央部はなだらかな丘陵地となっており、海岸部に向けて放射状に傾斜し、起伏の変化に飛んだ地形をしている。また、日本三景松島の一角をなし、町内の東部が県立自然公園松島の指定を受け、海岸線に沿って特別名勝「松島」の指定を受けるなど、自然環境や景観に恵まれた地域でもある。古くから海と密接に関わり、生活が営まれてきた地域である。
- 1889年に七ヶ浜村が開村し、1954年に七ヶ浜町となって以来、本日に至るまで「うみとひと」との関わりを大切にしたまちづくりに取り組んできた。「うみ・ひと・まち 七ヶ浜」は、七ヶ浜町長期総合計画のキャッチフレーズであり、七ヶ浜町のまちづくりの基本的な姿勢を表したものである。海沿いに、湊浜・松ヶ浜・菖蒲田浜・花渕浜・吉田浜・代ヶ崎浜・東宮浜の７つの集落があったことから「七ヶ浜」と名付けられた。
- Shichigahama, located 20km from the center of Sendai City, is the peninsular town, which sticks out from Matsushima Bay to the southwest direction. It has the total area of 13.19km2. The central part of the town forms a gentle hill, radially sloping down to the beach, and has an undulating topography. It is also a part of Matsushima, which is considered the Three Best Scenery in Japan. It is gifted with ample natural environment and beautiful sceneries, as the eastern part of the town is identified to be a part of Prefectural Natural Park Matsushima, and its seashore is designated to be the Special Place of Scenic Beauty “Matsushima” (by the government). The area has a long history of human dwelling, having a close connection with the sea.
- From its foundation as Shichigahama Village in 1889 and as a town in 1954 up to now, Shichigahama paid special attention to the relationship between “the sea and human” in planning the town. “Sea, People, Town, Shichigahama” is the slogan for the Total Long-term Planning of Shichigahama town, as well as expresses the fundamental attitude towards the town planning in Shichigahama in general. Shichigahama (means Seven Beaches) are named after seven settlements along the seashore, Minatohama, Matsugahama, Shobudahama, Hanabuchihama, Yoshidahama, Yogasakihama, Toguhama.
